During a research project at the Institute of Construction Research at RWTH Aachen, Germany a total of 27 products were examined as to their suitability for use as protection agents for facades made from face concrete. Investigations were carried out on moisture balance, surface consolidation and durability based on how the agents appeared on concrete surfaces. From the point of view of consolidation, the silicic acid ester products produced the best results. As well as consolidating the concrete surface, it was also possible to produce hydrophobic properties by adding hydrophobic agents to the silicic acid esters.
