Based on the superior performance of concrete bridges in the United States, the majority of bridges are nowadays constructed using precast components. Research and development efforts have helped to strengthen the position of precast technology and resulted in cost-efficient, durable and aesthetic design methods for rehabilitation projects as well as the construction of new small-and large scale bridge structures. Bridge con-struction projects in the US are often of enormous size and stand as remarkable examples of the possibilities of modern concrete technology.
