Product standards are also a marketing tool, in addition to their nominal function, and must help the development of the precast concrete products industry. While they must avoid “overspecify-ing”, they must specify everything to ensure that quality products are obtained. To achieve this in the future generation of standards, especially those for structural products, a number of im-provements will be required. A proposal for changes to and for a new organization of precast concrete product standards is presented here.
