Vortex Hydra srl (Italy) and Kuraray Co., Ltd. (Japan), started an intense research program in 2010 for the development of extruded polymer- ic micro-fiber reinforced roof tiles. The key factors that led to the two companies working together on this program for this new light weight product was mainly the strong market demand that exists to satisfy the growing life quality status of lightweight materials, the restricted condition for earthquake housing, reduction in installation labour costs, the overall lightweight structure of the roofing unit and reduced transportation costs.
