This paper discusses a research project “BACPOR”, in direct co-operation with Portuguese industry, aimed to develop a robust technology to produce, transport and place self-compacting concrete using materials available in Portugal. Within “BACPOR” different SCC mixes were designed and completely characterized in the laboratory, and then applied to “in-situ” construction and the precast industry. The adequacy of actual current processes involved in production, mixing, transport and placing was evaluated throughout fullscale testing and the most critical issues were identified concerning implementation of this technology in the Portuguese construction industry.
