By introducing the course of studies in industrial engineering with business administration concentrating on civil engineering at the faculty of economic sciences at Leipzig University in 1991, the prerequisites had been created for re-establishing civil engineering training in 1995. One important advantage of the site at Leipzig for targeted research was and continues to be the outstanding interaction which exists between the fundamental research at the university and the practice-oriented material research at MFPA Leipzig GmbH. This paper provides a brief overview of the structure of the two facilities and the main emphases of their research.
