Precast Concrete in American Architecture

Precast industry in the United States from 1919 up to now

From its ornate beginnings, architectural precast concrete has evolved into a practical, sustainable product with unlimited design possibilities. While concrete has been used for centuries to build the most amazing structures, the development of architectural precast concrete has steadily increased since the mid 1900’s. Builders and specifiers have discovered that architectural precast concrete offers the greatest degree of aesthetic versatility of any building material available today. This provides artistic freedom to designers and a durable, high-quality sustainable product for the owner. The origins of architectural precast concrete in the United States can be traced back to 1919 when John J. Earley began working on innovations to beautify concrete through his pioneering use of exposed aggregate. What he accomplished then would forever change the face of concrete.
