Concrete paving blocks have been used successfully in many parts of the world over long periods of time. However, occasionally problems occur which damage the image of block paving. These problems manifest as deterioration of the blocks, and the first reaction of clients or supervisors is that the paving blocks are inferior. This is not necessarily true as has been found in an extensive research programme conducted at the University of Pretoria in conjunction with the South African Concrete Manufacturers Association (CMA).
