Right up to the end of the seventies, paving block in Italy was unknown. There are many reasons why this type of paving did not become popular in our country, even during the economic boom of the fifties and sixties. The prìority was to build or rebuild our cities and industries and to do it as quickly as possible, with the result that the quickest, cheapest and least labour-consuming building methods were favoured. It was a time of full employment and labour was short and was used for building rather than for paving pùrposes. Industry also concentrated on making bricks, tiles and prefabricated elements for industrial sheds and factories rather than paving elements.
