The electricity costs of a precast concrete plant primarily arise from the consumption of real (effective) electric power that is physically required for transferring electrical into mechanical power, multiplied by the operating time in hours. The effective power consumption in kWh is recorded by the meter and billed by the utility company based on individual price agreements for large customers. Another, not always clearly identifiable influence factor on electricity costs are the energy consumption characteristics, determined by the power factor "cos phi". The power factor is used to determine the reactive power, which has significant influence on the power dissipation in a grid.
