The following is the final chapter of a five-part series by Lafarge – covering a range of topics relating to “Working with Ductal® Ultra-High Performance Concrete” (UHPC). Previous articles in CPI reported on: UHPC target markets and business planning requirements for precasters, UHPC equipment and production techniques and, manufacturing of UHPC structural and artisan products. A material at the cutting edge of innovation for new architectural applications, UHPC products have a combination of superior properties that makes it possible to design and produce thin, complex shapes, curvatures and customized textures; concepts that were previously difficult or impossible to achieve with traditional reinforced concrete elements. For this article, Lafarge provides specific examples and discusses production techniques for various UHPC architectural applications. The projects featured were chosen for their novel attributes that contributed to the realization of an architect’s vision (from “dream to reality”) and represent just a small selection of architectural innovations that have been realized in UHPC so far.
