At the WEC-Turmbau company in Magdeburg (Germany) a further Liebherr mixing plant produces quality concrete for special structures such as the precast tower elements for wind turbines. It was not until 1999 that the idea was born to produce these tower segments from concrete. Up until that time steel had been used to manufacture these parts, which are very demanding in terms of form and loadability. The manufacture of the tower segments from concrete has now proven itself in series production to be technically mature, inexpensive and economical. High-strength concrete, elaborate reinforcement and special formwork with precise tolerances are the prerequisites for the production of these segments.
