Safe transport of precast concrete elements –road tests brought new findings

Syspro-Gruppe Betonbauteile e. V., 63526 Erlensee, Germany

The proper securing of precast concrete elements for transport on low loader trailers is a task that cannot be solved purely craftsmanlike. Tables and guidelines need to be referred to for this. Even without an accident having happened, the question frequently arises in practice as to whether in the specific case a load has been secured correctly or not, namely during routine truck inspections by the police. The room for interpretation has been rather large for concrete products and precast concrete elements. To make things more difficult, the police force is governed by the individual German states. A borderline situation tolerated in North Rhine-Westphalia might be a cause for complaint in Lower Saxony. In view of the increased radius of their delivery ranges, the concrete and precast works have a vital interest in legal certainty across all federal states in terms of load securing requirements.
