Metal oxide pigment bonding stability in concreteblocks

Harold Scholz & Co. GmbH, 45665 Recklinghausen, Germany

Colour pigments are being increasingly employed in the manufacture of coloured facing concrete. One of the most important specifications for a building structure is at the same time one the outstanding properties of concrete blocks - durability. Depending on the component, an average lifespan of between 70 to 120 years is to be expected . The estimated lifespan of concrete is, in fact, comparatively higher than that of other materials (wood, steel, glass, etc.)1. It is not surprising, then, that constructors and planners relate this durability not only to important concrete characteristics like stability and strength, but in equal measure to properties such as appearance and surface composition. Facing concrete should be able to fulfil visual appearance specifications throughout the entire lifespan of a concrete object.
