Efficient, clever solutions harmonised with production processes are becoming increasingly important for specific railway requirements in a mobile society. Safety aspects, rapidity and economic factors play a crucial role. In this context, the Weimar Institute of Applied Construction Research (IAB) from Germany has been able to develop a railway sleeper measuring system that can be integrated into production lines. This system enables a 100% verification of a sleeper’s dimensional accuracy, provides read-outs of its markings and additionally allows its reinforcement layout to be checked for safety.
