Fibre composites in the constructionindustry

An overview

Fibre composites are multi-phase materials consisting of a base material (matrix) providing the shape and the embedded fibres. The range of fibre composites which are available for the different applications is extremely wide and includes natural materials (such as clay brick which are reinforced with straw), mass products (such as steel-fibre-reinforced concrete) and the high-performance fibre composites (such as carbon-fibrereinforced plastics – CFPs). As a consequence, the material properties and performance of the different types of fibre composites differ greatly and are able to meet the exact requirements for the diversity of applications for which they are used.
