Production in a versatile plant for theYork Peel Feedermain Project

Concrete pipes underground

In July of 2003 Munro Concrete Products Ltd. was awarded the contract to supply precast concrete pressure pipe to the $104 million York-Peel Feedermain. The pipeline will transport up to 381 million litres of treated water per day from Peel Region to neighboring York Region in the province of Ontario, Canada. Over 24,000 metres of pipe was needed comprised of 2,700 metres of 2100 diameter, 18,500 metres of 1800 diameter, 500 metres of 1050 diameter and 2,300 meters of 900 and 750 diameter. As well over 500 fittings made up of shorts, bevels, bends and valve chamber reducers were required. The delivery schedule for the York Peel project was stringent, with the contractor Dufferin Construction (a division of St. Lawrence Cement) requiring the first pipe in February of 2004 with completion by October. Although an established gravity producer the company had never manufactured pressure pipe and their successful bid necessitated the construction of a large plant addition as well as the ordering, installation, commissioning and certification of the pipe produced.
