Germany's largest bridge is currently being built in the Saal District in Sachsen-Anhalt. Over 8.60 km long, the Saale-Elster Viaduct will become part of the new Erfurt-Leipzig/Halle ICE stretch bundling rail traffic from southern Germany. The crossing will consist of a continuous 6.50 km long main span between Erfurt and Leipzig and a 2.10 km long branch structure leading to Halle.
