A complete auctioning off of CO2 emission certificates by the year 2020, as planned by the European Commission, would lead to at least half of the cement clinker production in Germany being replaced by imports from non-EU/non-ETS countries. This is the result of a current study carried out by the renowned consultants McKinsey on behalf of the Bundesverband der Deutschen Zementindustrie (BDZ) [Federal Association of the German Cement Industry] and the Verein Deutscher Zementwerke (VDZ) [Association of German Cement Works].
